casa de luz
1701 toomey road, austin, texas 78704

Atmosphere
Casa de Luz is an excellent break from hectic urban life.  The restaurant is just one element of a compound encircled by a quaint trailer court in South Austin.  Other components of the compound include a prayer garden, various classroom spaces, meditation areas, and probably yoga (grin).  The restaurant itself consists of a large room with a partially enclosed area in which the food is cooked.  The eating area is clean and configured with small and large tables for individual or communal dining.  The lighting is slightly subdued but augmented by the many windows.  There is quite a bit of activity going on in the dining area, but the noise level is low.
Food
There is a fixed menu each night.  Tacos one night, Indian (Asian) food another, etc.  The food is macrobiotic and vegan.  Start with a nice soup and delicious salad which you assemble yourself.  As you finish your first course, one of the staff will bring you your entree.; however, on one occasion it seemed that the staff were ignoring me and there was a bit of wait for the entree.   The food looks quite good and healthy.  The flavor is generally good with a tendency toward being just a tad on the bland side.
Cost:  There is a fixed price of about 10-12 USD/person per meal Web: Casa de Luz website Overall Rating: ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼ ☼
